7th Grade

Students need to bring their writer's notebook, and a pencil to class every day!

The best way to learn to write fluently is to practice. Every day at the beginning of class the seventh graders have been free-writing. They've written in response to poems, and they've written about experiences they've had.

Our first literary unit will be built around the theme:

“The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience."
               -To Kill a Mockingbird

The seventh graders also chose the book they would be reading for our first unit. They will be reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The book is about a young girl in Nazi Germany who steals books for herself and for the Jewish fist fighter hiding in her basement. The Book Thief is the recipient of many awards including the ALA Best Books for Young Adults.

Students also chose books that fit with the unit theme to read together in small literature circles.
